How to Book Your Luggage Transfers on the Fishermen's Trail
Walking with only a day pack will transform your experience on the Fishermen's Trail. That is why Vicentina Transfers — Walk Free was founded in 2017. As the original luggage transfer service on the Rota Vicentina, we have spent nearly a decade covering every kilometre of this trail, on foot and by vehicle, learning every accommodation, every access road, every edge case. We do this every day.
In summer 2026 we launched a brand-new Booking Engine — built from scratch, informed by ten years of field experience and direct feedback from thousands of hikers. It is the fastest, most intuitive luggage transfer booking system on the Rota Vicentina. Here is how it works.
💡Our service can sell out during peak season: April–May and September–October. As soon as your accommodation is confirmed, book your luggage transfers. Don't leave it to chance.
Step 1 — START YOUR BOOKING
Click BOOK NOW on our homepage. You'll land on the Booking Engine at booknow.vicentinatransfers.pt. Fill in four fields:
-
How many luggage transfers do you need?
-
How many pieces of luggage per transfer?
-
Date of your first pick-up (the morning your hike begins — not your arrival day in Portugal)
-
First pick-up town — where we collect your luggage on Day 1

Step 2 — CONFIGURE EACH TRANSFER
You'll move to a card-based view where each card represents one luggage transfer. Every card shows the pick-up town and accommodation, and the drop-off town and accommodation. Select your accommodation from the dropdown for each stop.
A few things to know:
-
Standard rates apply to standard single-stage sections. If your transfer spans more than one stage, multi-stage rates apply — the system always shows you the price before you confirm.
-
Staying more than one night in a village? Edit the pick-up date on the following transfer card.
-
Skipping sections by bus or taxi? Edit the pick-up town and date on the relevant card.
-
Number of bags changing mid-hike? Edit the luggage count on the relevant card.
-
Need to add a transfer? Hit 'Add another transfer'. Need to remove one? Hit 'Remove this transfer'.
-
Accommodation not in the list? Choose 'Other' and provide the accommodation's name and host's phone number.
-
Haven't booked accommodation yet? Choose 'No Booking' and update us later by replying to your confirmation email.
-
Between Salema and Lagos, service is limited to listed accommodations. 'Other' and 'No Booking' are not available for these stages — you must have a confirmed booking at one of the listed properties.

Step 3 — YOUR DETAILS
Once all transfers are configured and reviewed, move to Step 3 and enter your personal details. The navigation bar at the top of the Booking Engine lets you move freely between steps — nothing is locked in until you confirm.

Step 4 — CONFIRM & PAY
The final step shows a complete summary of your booking: your details, every scheduled transfer and the total cost. When you hit 'Confirm & Pay', you'll be redirected to a secure Stripe payment page. Stripe is fully independent of our website — your payment data never passes through us.
Once Stripe processes your payment, a confirmation page appears and a detailed confirmation email lands in your inbox immediately — with everything you need to know for your luggage transfers, day by day.
💡We know all the hosts. We have all the door codes and contacts. We have a professional, trained team and we do this every single day. Book your transfers, put your heavy bag on the doorstep and Walk Free. We'll take it from there.

When you book with us, you book with the people who built this service from the ground up, who walk this trail and who are here, on the coast, every day of the season.
Welcome to Rota Vicentina — About Vicentina Transfers
Running along the wild Atlantic coast of southwest Portugal, the Rota Vicentina is one of Europe's great long-distance trail networks — more than 2,000 km of hiking and cycling routes through the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park. At its heart is the Fishermen's Trail: a coastal path of extraordinary beauty, consistently ranked among the finest hikes in the world.
Vicentina Transfers — Walk Free is the original luggage transfer service on the Fishermen's Trail. Founded in 2017, we have been making hikers' lives lighter — literally — every season since. We know this coast the way you know a road you drive every day: every access point, every accommodation, every edge case, every exception. That knowledge is what we bring to your hike.
